FAQ

Questions you’ll actually ask

Clear answers about privacy, offline use, backups, and local sync — without hand-waving.

Privacy & security

Privacy & security

Is my data private?

Yes. Placefolio is offline-first: your inventory is stored locally on your device. There are no cloud accounts unless you connect Google Drive for backups, no analytics, and no third-party sharing.

Does Placefolio require internet?

No for core use. Most features work fully offline. Internet may be used for optional local Wi‑Fi sync with your Windows PC on your network and for platform storefront features such as downloading updates and processing purchases.

Why does Android ask for Location permission?

Android requires Location permission to scan for Bluetooth devices. Placefolio does not use location data for tracking.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

Uninstalling removes local app data from your device. If you want to keep your inventory, create a backup first.

Features & usage

Features & usage

How does Placefolio work?

Label boxes with QR codes, catalog what’s inside (with photos if you want), then scan the label to instantly see contents.

Can I track storage across multiple homes or sites?

Yes. Placefolio supports a multi-level hierarchy (Sites → Rooms → Locations → Boxes).

Do I have to use QR codes?

QR codes are the default workflow, but Placefolio can also support NFC tags or Bluetooth beacons for certain setups (optional hardware).

Can I store receipts, warranties, or insurance photos?

Yes. You can attach documents and photos to items and boxes.

Sync & backup

Sync & backup

Can I sync between devices?

Yes. Placefolio can optionally sync between Android and Windows using your local Wi‑Fi network. No cloud accounts are required unless you opt to link Google Drive for automatic backups.

Is sync encrypted?

Sync can be encrypted in transit on your local network.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export a ZIP backup that you store wherever you prefer. Link a Google account and Placefolio can upload each export to a Drive folder you control.

What if I lose my phone?

Restore from your backup. Because Placefolio doesn’t use cloud accounts by default, backups are the recovery path; you can opt into Google Drive backups for additional redundancy.

Pricing & licensing

Pricing & licensing

Is there a subscription?

No. Placefolio uses one-time purchases.

What’s included in the Android free tier?

The free tier includes core features with a limit of 25 boxes. Optional automatic Google Drive backups are available on all plans.

What does the Android unlimited purchase unlock?

It removes box limits so you can scale your inventory.

What’s the difference between Android and Windows versions?

Windows provides a desktop experience and can act as a local sync server for Android.
